May Observations | AI/ChatGPT in Healthcare | Steady your Heart | Thinking BIG
Hello Friends,
Thank you for reading - Leading Greats!
This is where I bring reflections from my wealth of knowledge and experience in healthcare and leadership incorporating well-being, plus new innovations.
I hope that you benefit from this information if even in some small way.
I appreciate your support!!
Thank YOU for being GREAT!
May is Mental Health Awareness month.
Also, May 6-12 is National Nurses Week.
I have more interesting conversations with strong leaders in their field each week.
More than I can reasonably share in one issue here.
I have discovered that over recent weeks.
I will work to keep it brief and interesting here.
Recently I spoke with Cardiologist Jonathan Fisher MD.
Jonathan is also a meditator, author, speaker, husband, and proud father - and the list goes on. https://www.linkedin.com/in/happyheartmd/
Our conversation covered many topics, tangents, and aspects of our lives and - what we are each inspired by - and up to.
Jonathan shared that he has been focused on the connection between the heart and the mind, and of course how if effects the person. There is another book in the making for him as an author.
This was truly an engaging conversation as I also attested there is an undeniable connection between the mind and the heart - and how it affects, and controls our bodies.
I was able to share some early observations of loved ones who had heart issues and how their spirits were incredibly controlled by the health and function of their compromised hearts.
The mind can take on other preoccupations if the body is less active and effected by heart issues.
Having the ability to -steady the heart- in times of chaos and excitement is vital to maintaining a healthy equilibrium.
Jonathan and I agree on a few ways to steady the heart:
· Mindful Breathing
· Gratitude Practice
· Emotional Awareness
· Self-Compassion
· Mindfulness Meditation
These practices also align with the work I do Coaching clients
…in leading themselves, teams, or organizations.
For mindfulness - here is a spot of nature where I spent time recently in my neighborhood. The wildflowers were abundant when I snapped this photo.
This past Tuesday I attended a Stanford webinar on AI/ChatGPT
…and how it can be useful in healthcare.
Thanks to Kyle Asay, Director at Stanford Healthcare for putting this together with Dr. Justin Norden, along with contributions from Varun Shenoy of Stanford, and Brenton Hill of Mayo Clinic Platform.

There was an interesting mix of attendees from undergrad students, and Department leads, to researchers in the medical innovation and investment spaces, clinicians, administration, and others.
All were curious and engaged to share, hear, and inquire of recent activity and considerations with Generative AI in healthcare, investments, studies, products, and challenges.
History with the ramp up and acceptance of implications for healthcare were a large part of the conversation along with questions about privacy, and plug ins.
Of course, ChatGPT is changing rapidly and improving at great speed.
Takeaways:
There are many AI-First companies in healthcare, payor/provider tech stack was a focus.
General AI/Large Language Models(LLM) use cases in healthcare and how to build was great to gain perspectives on.
Buzz words that guided part of our conversations were:
Structured to structured data: billing codes, research, quality improvement, patient registry information.
Synthetic Data, synthetic clinical trial arms, de-identification, statistically similar patient populations.
Image processing, radiology applications, ECG, vitals, other healthcare data streams.
Transcription, voice to text just got very easy.
Writing, patient messaging, prior authentication, and notes.
Another high point to ponder is What should you prioritize with generative AI in healthcare?
Go to market is harder than product in healthcare.
Speak with your customers, how are you going to sell?
Can you get a Letter of Intent before you write code?
Several more webinars took place in the week on ChatGPT
I expect this to be a trend.
It is great to see that those in the innovation space are keen on making sure that the basic understanding of what the ChatGPT tool is - and what its most likely uses are near term on our horizon.
We all could benefit from greater understanding of how best to challenge and clarify what ChatGPT could offer with better social safety guards in place.
The CEOs of Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic were meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris and top administration officials this past Thursday to focus on ways this technology can be developed and used safely and responsibly along with promoting economic growth and innovation.
Appropriate safeguards and a clear understanding of the risks of using AI are needed as more companies adopt and use it.
The world needs more Great Leaders!
I have recently read the book The Magic of Thinking BIG, by David J. Schwartz, PhD.
This read is packed with useful information focused on:
Acquiring the secrets of success and achieving everything you’ve always wanted!
Whether leading yourself or others to greatness - this book was clear, actionable, and motivational.
Several leaders and car enthusiasts in my area arrange a -classic car show- on the first weekend of the month - enjoy a few classics I grabbed a photo of.
That is all - for this issue - of Leading Greats!
