Earth Day 2023 | Leadership - Politics healing healthcare | AI abuzz
Hello friends,
Thank you for reading - Leading Greats - now in the 5th week!
This is where I bring reflections from my wealth of knowledge and experience in healthcare and leadership incorporating well-being, plus new innovations.
I hope that you benefit from this information if even in some small way.
I appreciate your support!!
It would mean so much(!!) if you would leave a “reaction” here - see top left.
Thank YOU for being GREAT!
It is Earth Day 2023
In reflection of three recent years quickly passed, I got a fresh appreciation for Earth Day - on Earth Day in 2020.
You remember - the world had just shut down for Covid19 the month prior in March, 2020.
We were all in disbelief with plenty of confusion and concern for what was really going on.
Nature became my default go to for well-being, calm, and mental fitness at that time, and even now. Fantastic outdoor offerings are bountiful around where I live.
FYI: here is a link to the history of Earth Day: https://www.earthday.org/history/
If you were at all like me during those highly doubtful early Covid times, I was prompted to write more about life - past, present, and potential future.
I did not claim to be a writer - I started anyway.
These very words you read were inspired from the early Covid days of - realizing my mortality - at a level and frequency that I never had before.
Not to sound too mushy for some of you, but I wrote a poem on Earth Day 2020.
It was not an aim at perfection but more a chance to capture experiences and realizations - just in case - amidst Covid!
I was so inspired after a cliff walk out in nature on a gorgeous April spring day by the ocean.
When I got back to my SUV, I pulled out a journal notebook that I had taken along, and I wrote out a poem in short order while just sitting there.
I had not trained to write poetry. This came solely out of inspiration and - reflections of the limits of life and time - one month into Covid social isolation.
I prefer to read this Earth Day poem to others when convenient - as I have an intentional rhythm in reading of how the context landed for me - and I like to offer that for the listener.
I will share that Earth Day 2020 poem here for you.
Thank you for indulging the written form here (if you will).
Earth Day - Wednesday April 22, 2020
As Earth Day is NOW
There was I
I invoked the -light of grace - on this fine day
The Pacific Coast trails called to me, so I went that way
There was I
The majestic, sweet musk of towering giant Eucalyptus trees perfumed the mid-peninsula trails
Once upon the artisan cut Pacific Cliffs, I gazed upon the mystical Pacific Ocean hues in motion
There was I
Filled with the joy of life while ever aware of mortality
I partook of natures’ unsparing performance in gratitude
Whales blew their spouts and breached the ocean’s surface in multitudes
What a pleasure-full sight to beholden as I deeply savored this spontaneous reality
There was I
As I perched along the jagged natural cliffs - I soaked up limitless splendor in all dimensions:
Of hypnotic masterful waves - washing, forming, and reforming the sands and shore below
Of tall, yet varied, emerald hills to the east behind posing as natural barrier fences
Of Blue-Black Ravens and Cinnamon shaded Hawks in orchestrated flight surveying the cliffs for prey
Of wild spring flowers, of sage green moss, and frost toned lichen, plus sweet varietal grasses aplenty
Most appreciative of the fine marine layer that fragranced and ushered the ocean breeze
All a great boost for the spirit, mind and body - ever heightening all of my senses
There was I
Returning back on my Pacific Trail route, other treats of nature prevailed
Blue Jays chanted and belched in protest as a grand Raven hovered too near to their nest
Of this fine time, on this Earth Day there is little more for me to say
Though eons - more of all this - is my request
There was I
I wish for ALL to experience -and enjoy- this great Earth and all its’ Grace
I hope for ALL to protect our Earth – as we awaken ever closer to HOW
ChatGPT & emerging technology around that all abuzz
Microsoft, (who is heavily invested in the ChatGPT parent company OpenAI) and EPIC have teamed up with revisions for Electronic Healthcare Records.
Further incorporating the AI tools to modernize systems to assist clinicians with burdensome administrative tasks, we get to see how soon this makes a desired end user difference.
I remain vigilant as to how AI can enhance efficiency and the ease of use in the healthcare space. Things are ramping up and changing rapidly with AI.
I need to rely on the experts to keep me clued in as to what matters and when it took place. Even these guys are now showing up speedily in near army abundance.
I will reference one believable AI source I have benefitted from below.
AI generated images are ever increasingly convincing now. Text-to-video is out and commanding great attention.
If you have not been convinced - we now need to pay attention to AI developments daily. Especially if we want to keep current and maintain the latest in efficiency and productivity - and for business potential.
This AI is all at the brink of overwhelming, so I rely on those who know much more than me about these topics.
I have been enjoying the -Superhuman- newsletter by Zain Khan who covers AI in a simple and ingestible format of the latest developments there.

The world needs more great leaders!
Today I joined a zoom meeting about campaign strategy for getting involved more in healing healthcare from the inside of politics.
Sounds heavy right?!? We must face it!
Healthcare is under an excessive heavy burden already - with or without you. And it does not have to remain that way.
So much has been exposed in the recent few years as to how the healthcare systems are not serving the ones it is intended to serve at its best.
And the system is surely coming up short for the healthcare providers of varied training, licensure, and responsibilities.
Voting with feet - and leaving healthcare jobs may seem like a solution - in the moment.
But with an increasing lack of providers of healthcare, where do we turn to rely on getting timely, accurate, affordable, and convenient care?
We must turn this ugly curve in the desired direction.
Getting politically active is a must. Especially for those delivering care, in healthcare leadership, or for those with expertise within this area.
If you have not yet considered a place in politics for yourself - to make a positive impact as we are late in the game for healthcare - I share a resource for you to consider. https://www.runforoffice.org/
Being informed of your political office options and what matters to get inside there is a great place to start at a minimum.
That is all - for this issue- of Leading Greats!
