Hello Friends,

Thank you for reading my newsletter “Leading Greats”!

This is where I bring reflections from my breadth of knowledge and experience in healthcare and leadership incorporating well-being, plus new innovations.

I hope that you benefit from this information if even in some small way.

I appreciate your support!!

Thank YOU for being GREAT!

It has been another week of interesting conversations, discoveries - plus travel and a conference over the weekend.

Hence, my newsletter is a bit later than usual…

Well-being and Healthcare

I flew to Orlando, Florida from the San Francisco Bay area late week for a conference over a long weekend.

  • This was a set up for time lag as there is a three-hour change in time - ahead on this trip for me in Florida.

  • These factors all added up to a later issue of this weeks newsletter.

  • I took good care to hydrate well while traveling.

    • The combination of a cross country flight plus arrival area local temperatures were about 20 degrees warmer than I am used to.

    • Add to that 80% humidity - I am not used to, that led to a few needed adjustments.

Each day and night was pretty packed with meetings, and with meeting new people and sharing our work, interests and goals.

Attendees included other coaches, consultants, entrepreneurs, speakers, creators, and services that support these careers.

I met several people who work within the healthcare space and with clinicians.

  • One of the presenters was Dr. Anthony Atala, Director of Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine, and Chair, Dept. of Urology at Wake Forest University. He presented  on work that his teams have been whiling away on for decades.

  • One impressive advancement is part of regenerative medicine and how Kidney cells may be taken from someone with compromised kidneys, and regenerated outside the body, then reintroduced into the kidney to increase capacity of the functional kidney.

  • 3D printers are being used in this regenerative work as well. It was reported they have been steady at work on this for decades also.

The Power of Choice | AI

One really great presentation at the conference offered an immersive experience that illustrated the ephemeral, unpredictable nature of our brains.

Emotional intelligence and perceptions expert Sylvie di Giusto, CSP, showcased innovations while guiding the audience through the mind - from the conscious to the unconscious and back again.

  • Sylvie spoke on bias and interpretations with reference to the Dunning Kruger effect.

  • The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias whereby people with low ability, expertise, or experience regarding a type of task or area of knowledge tend to overestimate their ability or knowledge.

  • The presentation was a hybrid format. She was presenting live at times and at times an AI version of her would appear. This was quite captivating while delivering a useful message. Both versions of Sylvie were quite convincing.

  • Sylvie delivered a meaningful presentation as she spoke of The Power of Choice and BIAS, and what we all interpret as we receive messages. It was completely thought provoking.

It was also visually appealing as a 3D image of the brain would surround her in various directions.

Innovation: Humor that works - at work

It was great to re-connect with a friend Andrew Tarvin, at the event in Orlando, FL. He works to bring humor practices to the workplace - quite successfully!

  • Andrew goes by the billing of a  humorist. I enjoyed one of his humor presentations at the Comedy Night session during the weekend conference.

  • Humor can be a touchy subject at work with varied perceptions and misperceptions of intentions.

  • Andrew brings light to those who are interested in having a more harmonious workplace and include humor to find common ground while at work.

In a relaxed chat Andrew and I captured a photo moment.

The World Needs more Great Leaders

I could bring up so so many inspiring leaders to mention in just one newsletter.

One that stood out for me as she also fits in the healthcare component here is Cynt Marshall.Cynt was a guest for a  presentation at the conference this weekend.

  • Her history is as remarkable as her current work.

  • Cynt is from a poor background, Cancer survivor, lost a few pregnancies, resorted to adoption after multiple miscarriages, and many more challenges that she rose to conquer and rise above.

  • And through her impressive career was later hired as CEO for Dallas Mavericks basketball team by Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks. Cynt holds that role now.

I spoke with Cynt for a while, and it was a goosebump moment.

Have you heard, trust your goosebumps? This could be my advice to you!

Cynt is putting some amazing good out into the world, giving back, and supporting communities.

This was such an uplifting story of leadership for good!
