They gave you the title. You're still trying to earn it. The 90-Day Seat:
Congratulations on the promotion!
You feel the clock the moment you sit down in that new seat.
Not the org chart. Not the strategy.
The clock.
Day two. Second meeting with the leadership team.
Someone asks what you are focused on first.
You have an answer ready. You wrote it on the flight in.
You have not been in the building long enough to know what is broken.
But you have the answer.
That case is not for the work.
It is for the audience.
I have watched good executives come apart in the first 90 days.
Not because they could not lead.
Because they could not wait.
The first 90 days are not your chance to make a mark.
They are your chance to earn the right to make one.
When you act before you understand, you solve problems no one asked you to solve.
The people around you have seen it before.
The ones who last in a new seat are not the ones who act fast.
They understood what they inherited before they touched it.
Sit with one person on your team and ask one question:
What has been broken here that nobody fixed?
Do not act on it yet.
Write it down. Let it sit.
