FEELING STUCK?

CHECK WHO'S AROUND YOU.

You can have the right goals.

The right work ethic.

The right strategy.

And still go nowhere.

Because the people closest to you have already decided how far is far enough.

That has nothing to do with their character.

It has everything to do with your proximity.

I have watched capable, talented professionals flatline for years.

Not from poor decisions.

Not from lack of drive.

From spending their best energy with people who had already made peace with where they were.

The ceiling was not external.

It was borrowed.

Getting near people who are actively building at a high level does something that discipline alone cannot replicate.

You stop treating certain goals as exceptional.

You start treating them as expected.

Reading about high performers gives you information.

Sitting near them gives you a standard. You see how they handle pressure, what they let go, what they absolutely will not accept.

That standard recalibrates you from the inside.

Early in my career, I sat with leaders who had already built what I was still sketching on paper.

I was not the most experienced person there.

But I watched. I listened.

What was normal for them started pulling at what I had settled for in myself.

No classroom did that for me.

Proximity did.

Here is the honest question worth sitting with.

Name the five people you spend the most professional time with.

Not your audience.

Not your followers.

The people in your actual daily orbit.

Are they pulling your thinking forward?

Or have they gotten comfortable with a version of you that you have already moved past?

Both answers tell you exactly where to look next.

You do not need to walk away from anyone.

One mentor further down the road than you.

One conversation you are not fully ready for.

One community where the bar is set higher than where you currently stand.

That is enough to start.

The leaders I work with who break through plateaus are rarely missing talent or work ethic.

They are missing the right proximity.

Nobody builds in isolation. Not everyone builds in the right company.

The people around you are either pulling your thinking higher or keeping it exactly where it is.

You get to choose which one.

I recently had a birthday(month).

To say I ate cake would be an understatement. ; -)
