Hello Friends,

I hope that you benefit from this information if even in some small way.

I appreciate your support!!

This issue marks a *3-month Milestone* for my weekly newsletter!

Thank YOU for being GREAT!

It has been another week of interesting conversations, discoveries, and breakthroughs…surely another packed week of notable meetings and events.

Los Angeles Tech Week

In great abundance I have had the most incredible meetings and conversations recently with shakers, disruptors, and change makers in the tech, leadership, and healthcare spaces.

I just got back from LA Tech Week - there was no shortage of these innovators gathered there. I will do you a favor and not list all the impressive folks I met with.

AI and Social Investing

One of my early meetings for LA Tech week was at the Beverly Hilton Hotel to attend panels supported by the Annenberg Foundation.

https://annenberg.org/news/annenberg-foundation-hosts-three-panels-at-social-innovation-summit/

Key topics I leaned into on every word were:

  • investing in Latinx ventures

  • Will-i-am on tech, training, and eduction

For those unfamiliar, Will-i-am is founder of the wildly popular musical group Black Eyed Peas, and much more! https://fyi.fyi/team/

Will-i-am grew up poor in LA -not in the best neighborhood- yet he was part of a school program that transported him into a more affluent school for quality education and development.

It is said we are products of our environment. Will-i-am was part of an affluent school environment. Now you can see how things turned out for him: exceedingly well.

Will-i-am is a graduate of Harvard, he has started several beneficial endeavors, and is of the stand that - we are stronger together. He further spoke that individual accomplishments have less contribution if not aimed at, shared, and inclusive of many.

He is a staunch advocate that we ALL need to wake up to the immediate change in needs for education and training for future jobs - and for our society as a whole.

There is a risk that many people could get left behind very quickly with the leap in technology now and where it is headed very soon.

Will-i-am is quite involved in the tech space, he believes we will not recognize our workforces in just 3 years from now - possibly in just 1 year.

Time is not on our side if we do not take immediate action to prepare the upcoming generations for jobs that are relevant and including technology.

Existing work forces also have to adapt to new technology now without delay.

Hearing this presentation had me thinking of returning home immediately to the SF Bay Area -to focus on starting a fund- to address some of these truly pressing issues!

These events and meetings are always of interest to me not only from a personal stance - but also as a Leadership Coach, Healthcare Leader and Advisor.

Well-being Practice

Downtown LA -by night- photo above taken from Griffith Observatory where I headed after LA Tech meetings for a nature break.

  • There I got to see planet Venus in a half illumination phase - so bright at night, yet so far away.

  • Venus is the third brightest planet after the Sun and Moon.

  • I was able to enjoy one of the incredibly powerful telescopes provided by staff offering curation to observe this planetary wonder.

Below photo taken of Griffith Observatory -by day- on the generous trails in Griffith Park.

  • The skies were quite grey - known as June Gloom in this period, yet calming

  • You can still see there is plenty of green to be amongst in LA in the right spots

  • Griffith Park trails are great for time out in nature and for well-being practice breaks from the busy city life

If you have never been, definitely visit Griffith Observatory and trails while in LA!

Clinician Input for Tech

I took part in a Perioperative Services panel discussion of the clinician and patient experience around Perioperative procedures in the past few days.

Those clinicians present were from the PA, NP, RN communities. Also, there was a tech company representative present listening to the clinician comments of what that perioperative procedure experience looks like for clinician and patient alike.

The meeting ended as the company representative shared the concept of their offering to make the perioperative experience more inclusive to address the needs of the patient involved in each step of the perioperative procedure process.

I saw this discussion from - a problem perspective. There is a value added opportunity for clinicians to make a vital impact in the early design and eventual roll out of clinical based tech products.

My stand with takeaways:

  1. I was there to learn.

  2. I was not there to offer my services from the perspective of an experienced Clinician, Healthcare Leader, and Executive Coach.

  3. If I were brought onboard by a health tech company, I would offer several key initiatives for implementing/improving the product so that it is more appealing and practical to the end user - both clinicians and patients alike - where applicable.

Healthcare and Tech products need more experienced healthcare professionals at the helm - this is resoundingly obvious!

The world needs more Great Leaders!

I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Navin Goyal, MD, former practicing Anesthesiologist, Physician Leader, and Entrepreneur this week.

After achieving many important milestones in his impressive career - one day Navin realized he needed to be doing other things that mattered more to him in this life.

Navin has actively founded a few startups. He has around 70 employees currently.

He spends ~ 20 % time on  Offor health, https://www.offorhealth.com/

He is doing good things to get Dental care to Medicaid kids without the long wait.

Navin also started a Fund where he spends the ~ remaining 80% of work time focused on Loud Capital, https://loud.vc/

In the background a while ago he co-founded https://beyondphysician.org/ offering training, networking and side gigs to physicians.

Additionally, Navin self-published his first book: Physician Underdog.

He is very proud of this book as it tells his story and he is an avid supporter of the underdogs in life. One might have a clue by the nature of the many endeavors he is involved in.
