AI | Drones in Healthcare | SF Tech Week | Amplifying Nursing Voices | Book Publishing
Hello Friends,
Thank you for reading my newsletter - Leading Greats!
This is where I bring reflections from my wealth of knowledge and experience in healthcare and leadership incorporating well-being, plus new innovations.
I hope that you benefit from this information if even in some small way.
I appreciate your support!!
Thank YOU for being GREAT!
It has been another week of interesting conversations, discoveries, and breakthroughs…surely a packed week of notable meetings and events.
Tech Week San Francisco
SF Tech Week took place the past several days into Sunday.
Tech Week picks back up in Los Angeles on Monday 6/05 - 6/11.
I joined a few well organized, fully attended, informative SF Tech Week events around topics of AI, Robotics, Healthcare, Athletics, and Performance.
There were several speakers at each event, and of course - each of the speakers were well versed in their industry spaces.
The audiences were robust, keenly interested in the topics, and many were eager to share what was going on with their tech endeavor/company, while sharing barriers and inviting feedback for future enhancements and scaling up.
A few highlights were - learning more of what AI and autonomous drones are doing in the healthcare space - for timely, quiet, and safe delivery of much needed supplies.
There are of course applications beyond healthcare - to household items, and even your dinner. See flyzipline.com.
[Photo not of a drone, yet I was reminded of the promise of drone services when I took this photo in Palo Alto, CA while trail walking. It also captures the cotton candy looking fog that we get here.] https://www.alltrails.com/parks/us/california/baylands-nature-preserve
Athletes are active in tech
From forming communities, to creating products for improvement and dialing in measurements for performance - I was among athletes and athletic enthusiasts raising funds and offering helpful services in this space.
There were of course tales of failures to succeed on once attractive ideas - for a myriad of obstacles.
Some of those sharing such failure to thrive sentiments were serial start-up founders and employees.
For anyone curious how the resilience lasts when founding a start up company as situations look grim - the takeaway I garnered was “love the problem” you want to solve.
By keeping purpose in mind helps weather lack of commercial success in a start up.
As a leadership and performance coach these events are rewarding as I get to consult with many bright and talented leaders on their way to making change and impact through tech.
Book publishing options
I had a great encompassing conversation with Mitchell Levy this week about book publishing - and much more.
As I have written a book, yet to be published, Mitchell and I discussed sensible options for first time book publishers, and beyond.
Mitchell is an accomplished author, speaker - several times on TED, entrepreneur, and community builder, course creator. And the list just keeps rolling on!
Mitchell also lives in the SF Bay Area, California, links to some of his work are here:

The world needs more Great Leaders!
On May 31st, I attended a Linkedin Live event hosted by Nate Jewett, on Nursing Voices Amplified: A Tribute to Nurses - Celebrating Nurses Month.
Panelist included Rebecca Love, RN, MSN, FIEL, Chief Clinical Officer of IntelyCare, and Alisha K. Mix, DNP, MPH, FAAN, Rear Admiral, Assistant Surgeon General, Chief Nurse Officer, USPHS, along with Dr. Bethany Hall-Long, Lt. Governor of Delaware, Health Scientist & Leader.
The discussion included pressing topics of how to address the nursing shortage in care, how to revamp the nursing compensation and reimbursement model, and how to better train, attract, and retain nurses going forward.
Of enlightening note is how our current nursing compensation and reimbursement model took a redirection several decades ago when it adopted what is similar to the hotels model with housekeeping. Those fees are folded into the room rate charges.
This current nursing reimbursement model is not working and is no longer sustainable in healthcare.
Nurses are currently a cost and are being cut - from many institutions as cost saving measures. This rolls out to decreased patient safety, and lower value of care resulting in poorer outcomes for patients.
Nursing job satisfaction has suffered tremendously in recent years. Many nurses have stepped out of care providing jobs.
Certainly, this adds to the increased burden and demand daily on remaining care providers in healthcare increasing burnout and moral injury to an all-time high.
This has ripple impacts on all clinicians in healthcare.
Like no time before, we need timely sustainable solutions to improve our healthcare systems now.
More nurses and clinicians are needed in politics to represent our current healthcare reality to bring drastically needed meaningful change for the better.
No one knows better what the issues are to address from the realities of our current healthcare constraints - than those with experience inside the systems.

We are experiencing a Strawberry Full Moon now
Perhaps you have been able to appreciate the full moon this weekend while it was nicely bright and just so full!
Full moons have even more impact on me now that we have the Webb Space Telescope that brings us the most amazing, dreamy images from way-way outer space to remind us just how small we are here on earth.
Time outdoors increases a connection to nature and well-being.
It is June, enjoy early summer! Keep well and keep safe!!
That is all - for this issue - of Leading Greats!
